I have always enjoyed setting myself compositional challenges, and one day, whilst browsing Sonicology, I spotted Sonic QX.
According to the short description, this allowed you to edit Sonic Music. However the Sonicology download was broken, and I remembered I had the author of the program, Saxman, in my AIM buddy list. I managed to contact him and he very kindly uploaded it.
When I tried the program and found it really good fun, if a little quirky! I realised it would be a great challenge to compose tracks to replace the music for every zone in Sonic 2, figuring it would probably be easy to port music data from the Beta to the Final. However I haven't succeeded in doing this properly yet.

Below are the current releases of S2ast. At the moment there are only previews, as I won't do a proper Release until I have worked out how to port music from Beta to Final.

tropical.mp3 857KB This is a higher quality version of the tune playing on the main page. It's currently not featured in either of the above previews. It's actually based off of "Forest", which is an earlier composition of mine.
emeraldhill.mp3 1075KB This is the only track I'm actually happy with, and that has a definitive zone.

665KB 		These are both the same track, v1 is rendered with the Sonic2beta instrument patch, the other with Saxman's patch. I think v1 sounds more sonicy, but using the S2Beta patch corrupted the rest of the music :(
