New Addition to RSN! Posted by: voice
Yup, its been a while since I've added onto the site, so now I present to you RSN TV. This has been a concept of mine for a while and for the last two weeks has been getting put together. The recent move of RSN Radio from ShoutCAST to IceCast was part of this overall plan. So what all is on RSN TV? Well at the moment its running Sonic the Hedgehog(Sonic SatAM), Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog(AoStH), and Sonic Underground.

You'll notice that Sonic X wasn't listed, the reason behind this is because I want to keep it limited to shows not currently aired anymore because the last thing I want to do is piss off Sega. Sonic X is still on the air, albeit butchered by 4KidsTV, and if memory serves me correctly they sell Sonic X DVDs. So for now Sonic X is off the list.

Other content will be added over time, but be warned, requests for AMVs to be put on will be rejected right out.

To view RSN TV just click the link at the top of the page labeled "RSN TV", this will popup a java player. VLC is also able to view this stream which is available at http://radio.randomsonicnet.org:8000/rsntv. Currently with the java player it seems that at the end of every episode or video aired it stops, I'm not sure if there is a reasonable way around this, I will keep checking to see.

RSN Attacked, Sonic Retro Likely Behind It Posted by: voice
For those wondering why the SCQDB was messed up the past week or so, well it seems we're still suffering fallout from blocking Sonic Retro's links. A old moderator by the name of ThunderSpeed (goes by Katelynn on Sonic Retro), who is a Retro tech member, decided to go on a deleting rampage. Luckily I keep backups, so nothing was lost except for a few quotes and a news posting, no big deal. Either way ThunderSpeed has been removed as SCQDB staff and banned from the QDB site.

This is starting to sink to new lows, guys. Oh, and epic fail.

RSN Radio Posted by: voice
As you may have noticed, RSN Radio has been down the past couple of weeks, this was due to some software screw ups. This isn't the first time this has happened so I've decided to switch us over from ShoutCAST to Icecast. The benefits of doing this include being able to stream in OGG formats, we can now run multiple streams off of the same server instead of having to have two running. The downside is our web player doesn't work with it, nor does the radio information page, so I will have to work on this over the coming weeks.

Another positive is we're now using Icecast's automated streaming software, IceS, which allows for re-encoding on the fly, this means all of our MP3s can now be played. To give you an idea, due to formatting inconsistencies ShoutCAST's automated streaming software would only play about 20% of our MP3 library.

So for now if you want to listen to the RSN Radio stream you'll need to open your favourite media player and put in http://www.randomsonicnet.org:8000/rsnradio.m3u. I personally recommend using VLC since its like the swiss-army knife of media players and it works on all platforms.

UPDATE: I finally got the web player working with the new stream however the stats info is so different that the old stuff really will not work any more, so I decided to do away with the old pop-up method and leave the media player directly on the RSN Radio page, it is currently set so you have to tell the player to begin. Also the only stat displayable now is just the song title but to be honest I don't think anyone really cared how many people were listening or what bitrate the stream was running at, 128kbps btw, so I feel the song title is sufficient information enough. As with the old method the song title will automatically update itself on the RSN Radio page every 15 seconds.

Sonic Retro has copied SCQDB Posted by: voice
Apparently Sonic Retro isn't happy about the fact that I set RSN up to inform users coming directly from their site of Retro's actions. As such they've apparently gone ahead and setup their own QDB and according to Sonic65:

<Sonic65> voice, I'm glad to let you know that all of the top 100 from your QDB are now in Retro's, and 50 have been approved

So what it comes down to is Retro copied SCQDB as a retaliation for the block on them. Oh well, at least we know SCQDB was the original QDB in the Sonic Scene.

I think what makes this more amusing is I don't like Retro, but I didn't steal their wiki. They didn't like my block, they stole SCQDB. You keep it classy, Retro.

Temporary Downtime Posted by: voice
As you may have guessed there were some problems earlier today. Our original DNS provider had disabled access to the DNS servers pointing the way to RSN because their servers had been receiving malicious traffic. They claimed they would get the issue resolved quickly as possible but they didn't, so I've moved the domain to a different DNS host.
